Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Correctional Plant Supervisor, the Chief Engineer I tasks will include supervision of (11) Stationary Engineer, CF, (1) Electrician III, CF and (6) Electrician II, CF.
Schedules material flow and staff, maintains orderly work progress to ensure that projects are carried out according to plans and specifications; maintains records, prepares monthly reports for outside control agencies, prepares contract specifications for both service and public works contracts; assist in preparing institution Capital Outlay Budget Change Proposal (COBCP) requisitions materials, supplies, tools and equipment; reviews and prepares work requests, cost estimates of labor and materials for projects; assigns and supervises the work of personnel engaged in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air conditioning systems, including boilers, compressors, steam lines, gas lines, control and meters; directs the analysis of boiler feed water samples and determines appropriate water treatment; reviews and approves vacation and sick leave requests.
Prepares probationary and annual performance reports; meets daily/weekly with staff to discuss working schedules and departmental institution policies and procedures.
Reviews and completes monthly work reports.
Maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections.
Prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or other or to state property, Inspects premises and searches for contraband.
