Job Description and Duties
District 8 - Metro Region - West Electrical
Under the direction of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor, the Caltrans Electrician II will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic devices used within the state right of way and on state facilities.
The incumbent will work independently with a crew, may be assigned to lead the work of a crew, or may oversee work performed by private contractors.
The incumbent may be required to work overtime including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may respond to emergency calls.
May be required to work temporary and/or intermittent varied work shifts due to operational requirements.
May be loaned to other cost centers.
This position is represented under collective bargaining.
The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license.
The incumbent may operate a 45-foot personnel hoist used to repair and maintain Caltrans electrical equipment, therefore it is desirable to possess a class A or B commercial driver’s license with a current medical certificate.
Emergency response is required outside of employee's normal work hours.

Working Conditions Position located in Ontario, San Bernardino County Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
The incumbent is based at a maintenance facility in a metropolitan area.
Time will be spent outdoors in the field as well as indoors in a laboratory/repair room environment.
The incumbent will travel extensively within the assigned area which includes metropolitan, rural, mountain, and desert areas.
Weather conditions vary from a cold, wet and windy winter climate, to hot and mostly dry summer conditions.
Temperatures range from below freezing in the winter to over 100 degrees consistently in the summer.
Winter weather includes rain and heavy snow; in the summer, occasionally heavy thundershowers are likely.
Will be required to work outdoors at all times of the year and in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
The incumbent will be exposed to live electrical circuits as well as noise, dust, and chemicals.
Will be required to wear long pants and appropriate footwear in good condition and must wear provided personal protective safety equipment such as shirts or vests, hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses as well as other safety devices deemed necessary.
The incumbent will be required to travel and may be required to stay out of the local area overnight or for extended periods.
This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.
