Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of a Supervisor of Building Trades, the Telecommunications Facilities Technician II performs construction and repair work, maintenance and repairs on heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, complex electrical and mechanical work, on-site construction including concrete work, fence installations, carpentry, vault or small building construction, and maintenance of standby generator systems including transfer panels.
This position travels extensively throughout the state in support of the Department’s telecommunications infrastructure and communication systems.

Working Conditions Good physical and mental health; superior mechanical ability; willingness to travel and work irregular hours; get along well with people; willingness to work after training on antenna systems and towers for purposes of installation; maintenance of antenna systems and components.
This position requires the TFT’s to travel Tuesday through Friday, every week.
Typically, TFT’s will use lodging Tuesday night through Thursday night.
TFT’s work 10 hour days and have Monday’s off.
Work week begins on Tuesday.
This position travels extensively throughout the state in support of the Department’s telecommunications infrastructure and communication systems.

Possession of a valid, permanent, Class C driver license.
In addition, a valid Class A driver license and appropriate special endorsements and certificates required to comply with vehicular regulations must be obtained.
All positions required to possess a commercial driver license are subject to Federal drug testing regulations.
Employees must meet these requirements no later than 90 calendar days after appointment to the class.
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation and repair of plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer systems; materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment and in miscellaneous building maintenance and repair work and skill in the performance of such work; and Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety dealing with heating, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
Ability to work independently; read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications; estimate material needs; keep records; follow oral and written directions; get along well with others; work safely; and read and write at a level appropriate to the classification.
The CHP utilizes their own Telecommunications Facilities Technician II list.
