Both Industrial Process Safety and Energetics Safety must advise all of our operational activities on an ongoing basis.
From the operators and supervisors performing processes on the production floor, to the engineering and quality teams making production process improvements.
All need to be cognizant of safety needs, procedures, and regulations, and thus we require in-depth involvement from our safety department to ensure that we protect our employees from harm.
At Armtec, the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety plans strategic improvements to our safety systems to ensure we operate a safe workplace and maintain our compliance with the Safety, Environmental, and Health regulations affecting our business, including relevant Pyrotechnic, Ammunition, and Explosive safety requirements.
They also are responsible for leading, managing, and developing a high performing team of EH&S technicians and engineers to drive continuous safety improvements into our manufacturing processes, and drive EH&S related performance and productivity improvements into our safety team’s functional processes.
Our EH&S Manager needs to drive regular improvements to Quantity Distance (QD), reductions in At-risk behaviors, First Aids, and Recordable Incident rates, while simultaneously driving lower year over year safety and environmental related costs.
This can be achieved by: leveraging our Behavior-based safety program to identify key areas of improvement; partnering on projects with our manufacturing and engineering teams: and paying attention to the details of our business processes and driving out anything that wastes our team’s time and doesn’t make our employees safer.
Primary Responsibilities Establish strategic plans for safety system improvements Provide leadership for our Safety and Environmental Staff, act as an example and mentor for what they can aspire to become, and provide development opportunities to help them get there.
Steward our EH&S values, and develop an EH&S vision and annual strategic EH&S plan.
Achieve and maintain a world-class safety incident rate lagging metric, and regularly improve on our safety behavior leading metrics.
Drive regular improvements to energetic QD (reduce quantities, increase distances) and improve industrial hygiene for our employees.
Employ a risk management process for prioritizing our EH&S improvement activities.
Ensure safety participation on process developments and process changes to help avoid rework and ensure smooth transition to production.
Improve safety standards and requirements and ensure up-front visibility of these requirements on all change activities.
Monitor changes to regulations and requirements, and ensure policies and procedures are changed or implemented to ensure compliance.
Drive waste and ineffectiveness out of our safety and environmental processes.
Act as main point of contact for various regulatory inspections including Department of Defense, EPA, Cal/OSHA, ATF and local governments.
Participate in Fire, Spill, Medical, & Rescue emergency response activities as needed.
Perform Process Hazard Assessments for all new products and programs, and ensure regular revalidation of PHA’s for all existing products and programs.
Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above Understand and live by Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or above in Safety, Environmental Engineering or a related science and at least 10 years of experience in an EH&S leadership role.
Prefer experience in an energetics related field, and strong familiarity with DOD 4145.
26 Contractor Safety Manual, and Process Safety Management for Explosives and Pyrotechnics Manufacturing.
Demonstrated Strategic Leadership and process improvement experience.
Excellent Communication and People development Skills.
Prefer active EMT certification Must be dependable, responsible, and accurate and have the ability to deal with people effectively.
