Job Title: Fire Alarm System Mechanic Department: Base Operations & Maintenance Job Summary: The Fire Alarm System Mechanic will inspect, test, service, maintain, repair, and install fire alarm detection system and related equipment per the manufacturer's specifications and service requirements.
This position will install portable and fixed fire extinguishing equipment, fire extinguishers, fire suppression equipment, and fire hoses.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None Duties/Responsibilities: Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and other related electrical systems to determine the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components; tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter, and makes needed repairs Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems to identify equipment and systems repair Informs personnel regarding procedures and status of work orders to provide information for making decisions, taking appropriate action, and complying with health and building regulations Inspects electrical/fire alarm/mass notification systems and their components to evaluate condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance Installs electrical system components as assigned (e.
g.
panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.
) to provide enhanced and upgraded system capabilities Maintains assigned vehicle, tools, and test equipment to ensure availability of equipment in the workplace Monitors the electrical/fire alarm/mass notification system work of outside contractors to ensure that the projects are satisfactorily completed and within local/state/federal and district codes, regulations and specifications Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform job functions Prepares written materials to document activities and conveying information Responds to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure the availability of materials required at the job site Installs fire extinguishers in new or renovated facilities Performs moderately complex, physically demanding semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks of buildings, grounds, and school and athletic equipment, requiring use and working knowledge of specialized tools, equipment, and materials Required Skills/Abilities: Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Vocational training in Fire Suppression Equipment and fire safety procedures At least three years of related experience required Physical Requirements: Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals Special Qualifications/Requirements: Must be able to pass successfully, as required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation The State of Georgia and UFC 3-601-02 Operations and Maintenance, Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Protection System Required Applicants for this position should have their level I, II, or III NICET certification, which requires prior experience.
