TORRES MARTINEZ DESERT CAHUILLA INDIANS CLASS TITLE: WETLANDS TECHNICIAN

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Natural Resources Manager, assist in the conservation and maintenance of water
i n frastr u ct u re : water delivery systems; habitat conditions for wetlands ecosystems; water testing; operate and maintain heavy construction equipment and hand power tools.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The duties listed are not all inclusive and may be modified at the sole discretion of the employer.
ESSE NTIAL DUTIES:
· Operate and maintain water delivery systems: pipe lines, valves and water pumps.
· Operate and perform basic maintenance for a backhoe tractor, wood chipper and transportation vehicles.
· Control and eradication of invasive species.
· Check the appropriate operation of a small solar energy system.
· Construction of habitat enhancements for plants and animals.
· Perform water quality testing in cells, ponds and ditches.
· Maintain records and logs.
OTHER DUTIES:
· Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNO WLEDGE OF:
· Oral and written communication skills.

· Operation of heavy equipment and power tools.
· How to plan and organize maintenance work.
· Computer operation and basic use of software: Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
· Operation of small solar energy Systems
ABILITY TO:
· Operate and maintain specialized hand and power tools and equipment.
· Perform a variety of duties in the installation maintenance and repair of water pumps and water deliver lines.
· Collect, transport and log water samples.
· Communicate effectively both oral and in writing.
· Plan and organize carpentry and general maintenance projects.
· Maintain records related to work performed.
· Identify plants and animals in a wetlands habitat.
· Observe health and safety regulations.
· Work with minimal supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one-year experience in water testing;
o p eratio n and maintenance of water delivers systems, operation of heavy equipment, carpenter projects mechanic maintenance for vehicles or tools.
Nursery work experience desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: To perform and to continue to be qualified for this position, the requirements listed below must be met at a time of hire or may be obtained within a specific amount of time depending on the position requirements.
Costs for required certifications, licenses, and registration are to be covered by employee, unless offered by the Tribe.
Prior to hiring and continuously throughout employment, must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
