*Position Summary*: The La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians is seeking highly motivated candidates to work on several Public Works construction projects.
The position requires flexibility in skill sets, job assignments and applied time.
The position is appointed by Director of Public Works and reports to the Public Works Foreman / Field Supervisor.
*JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* The following duties are considered essential for this job classification:
1.
Perform department functions and operations including street maintenance operations, sanitary and storm sewer maintenance operations, street sweeping.
2.
Install water pipe, irrigation pipe, sewer pipe, valves, fittings, etc.
3.
Perform full depth patching and pothole filling.
4.
Knowledge in operating all department-controlled equipment and vehicles including heavy equipment, dump and water truck, cement cutters, street sweeper, power washers/jets and all other assigned equipment and vehicles.
5.
Able to properly use weed eaters, pole saws, chain saws any other landscaping tools.
6.
Daily and monthly assists with the general repair and maintenance of all department-controlled equipment and vehicles.
7.
Responsible for performing tree care and maintenance.
8.
Use all safety equipment provided to safely complete assigned tasks.
9.
Working outside in the elements such as heat, cold, rain and sun.
Potential for high levels of pollen, dust, and other irritants typical with outdoor conditions.
Working with and around large loud running equipment and hazardous or flammable chemicals.
Work in confined spaces including but not limited to well or pump house, catch basins, excavation sites and the water tower.
10.
Maintain a friendly and helpful working relationship with co-workers, citizens, and public officials.
11.
Perform all other tasks as assigned.
*Minimum Qualifications*:
1.
Must have excellent organizational skills.
2.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
3.
A valid driver’s license (CDL) with good driving record is required.
4.
Heavy equipment certification.
5.
Knowledge of maintenance and safe operation of vehicles and equipment used by the public works Department.
6.
Ability to use small tools and power tools.
7.
Must be able to organize, follow directions and to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to lift, pull and /or move 50 pounds for extended periods of time.
8.
Must be able to occasionally lift/pull and or move 100 pounds with mechanical or physical assistance.
9.
Required to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Capable of heavy stretching and pulling for extended periods of time.
10.
May be required occasionally to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
