*SUMMARY* Performs repairs, modifications and routine mechanical/electrical maintenance of the facilities, waste water systems, utilities, and aerial tramway in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
A level one maintenance ropeway technician will acquire the proper skills and abilities, to perform the essential duties and responsibilities, from extensive on the job training.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Assist with the proper set-up and calibration of machinery, including pre-operational inspections.
Responsible for monitoring safety of machinery, including the completion of periodic daily inspections.
Respond to equipment emergencies, according to the manufacturer’s troubleshooting procedures.
Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery within the methods, procedures, and supervisor guidance.
Responsible for the safety of employees near your equipment during troubleshooting and maintenance.
The thorough completion of all records regarding aerial tramway and facility maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
Perform all maintenance of facilities and machinery in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
Maintain clean and orderly work station, using special attention to inventory tool and parts supply areas.
Monitor mechanical conditions that may affect the quality and timely completion of tramway cabin trips.
Work with other departments in a cooperative and supportive role.
Ask questions with unfamiliar tasks.
Self-motivation, find new projects in addition to assisting completion of daily preventative maintenance.
Assist contracted technicians or manufacturer with maintenance, repair, and installation of components.
Attend regular employee meetings and training seminars.
Assist with training and instruction, if needed.
Assist in the documentation and ordering/purchasing of materials and supplies needed for maintenance.
Assist in the cleaning, lubing, socketing, splicing, installing, and replacing of wire rope cable.
Fabricate, modify, disassemble, and assemble facility, utility, and ropeway equipment when helpful or needed.
Perform tramway maintenance in accordance with applicable laws, ANSI standards, and manufacturer’s specs.
Responsible to immediately communicate to the VP of Tramway Systems or VP of Maintenance any information on all abnormal or unusual conditions, incidents, observations or system malfunctions.
Assist the maintenance (oil, fuel, filters, batteries, and any consumables) on all rolling stock, if needed.
Properly change, rebuild, and adjust tower sheaves, slack carriers and other tramway components.
Responsible for the proper knowledge of stand-by drive operations as well as evacuation procedures.
Operate various types of equipment (bobcats, excavators, fire engine, winches, tractors, etc.
) Clean and maintain back-up equipment and spare parts in preparation of potential failures.
Provide management with feedback, stating issues, offering solutions for improvement in order to develop/implement new or improved ideas for continuous reliability of tramway equipment.
Participate in the planning of tramway and facility capital improvement projects, when helpful or needed.

*LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide mentoring, guidance, and knowledge or experiences with shadowing Engineer Tech Trainees.
*QUALIFICATIONS * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

*EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
College degree preferred.
The successful passing of the Engineer Tech Trainee Test is required.
Technical or trade school with emphasis in welding, electrical or mechanical skills/studies preferred.
A minimum of one-year experience in ski-lift, ropeway and/or industrial maintenance industry preferred.
*TECHNICAL SKILLS * Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, fabrication, and machinery maintenance with schematic interpretation.
Practical problem solving skills and the ability to deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
The ability to communicate all issues or solutions with a supervisor.
The ability to interpret a variety of instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Basic circuit analysis & experience wiring motors, relays, or electrical system preferred, but not required.
Electrical tool use (Voltmeter, Ohmmeter, Infrared Thermometer) experience preferred, but not required.
Identification of PLC, VFD, Servo drives, Relays, Proximity sensors, AC/DC motors, Solenoids, etc.
Knowledge of requirements by CA Title 8 Tramway Safety Orders and familiarization with ANSI B77 codes.
Ability to complete maintenance department Work Orders utilizing PM software data entry.
Ropeway preventative maintenance tasks including tower line work, grease and oil lubrication, and wrenching.
Heavy equipment use with pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance and repairs, basic machining and fabrication.
*COMPUTER SKILLS * Accurate record keeping and basic computer skills with familiarity in Microsoft Word and Excel.
*LANGUAGE SKILLS * Due to the variety of visitors at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, knowledge of a second language is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
*MATHEMATICAL SKILLS* Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
*REASONING ABILITY * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to make quick, accurate decisions regarding the safe operation, maintenance and perform emergency evacuation procedures of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
*CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS * Valid California Driver's License, CPR and First Aid Certification are required when training is provided by the Tramway.

In addition, the employee must be able to: climb water tank, traverse difficult terrain, climb power-line and tram tower ladders ranging from 5ft.
to 200 ft.
, stand and work on platforms, railings, structural steel beams at heights in excess of 600 ft.
above the ground for up to 2 hours at a time, access and ride moving carriers attached to a ropeway system, suspend oneself in a safety harness for periods of up to one hour and must be able to self-evacuate from the aerial tramway.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and explosives.
