*JOB DESCRIPTION* Position Opportunity: Seeking a passionate, individual willing to practice flexibility working with students who demonstrate social emotional challenges.
* Drive/Accompany a CLS vehicle to transport students on assigned routes to and from school each day.
* Provide instruction and behavior management to an individual student as assigned.
* Ensure proper implementation of behavioral management practices to provide a safe and orderly environment during the route.
* To supervise and support students with social-emotional challenges.
*PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES* (The essential duties include, but are not limited to, the items below.
) *Driver* * Operates a CLS vehicle on designated routes in accordance with a time schedule * Transports students on field trips * Adheres to district policy and procedures in maintaining discipline during route * Regularly inspects operating safety of vehicle and reports maintenance needs * Prepares and submits daily and weekly reports of mileage, time, student ridership, and vehicle inspection * May fuel and provide minor service to CLS vehicles * Maintains window and interior cleanliness of vehicle on a daily basis *Accompany* * Maintain proper behavior management of passengers; resolve disputes; document and report severe disciplinary cases.
* Oversee and assist with the loading and unloading of students, releasing students only to authorized individuals; assure that safety belts are fastened.
* Monitor students with special health problems during route; follow written or oral instructions and alert to any signs of difficulty following prescribed instructions and procedures; administer first aid and call for emergency assistance if needed.
* Transport and deliver memos between parents and school staff; collect and return students' personal property when entering and disembarking the vehicle.
* Work in conjunction with the vehicle operator at all times.
*Driver/Accompany* * Properly complete and turn in timesheets and other reports as required.
* Attends meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.
* Maintain current required licenses and certificates * Perform other related duties as assigned *QUALIFICATIONS* (Applicants must meet these minimum requirements) *Knowledge and Critical Skills* * Knowledge of the general needs and behavior of children * Knowledge of the basic psychology in the growth and development of children * Ability to remain calm under stressful situations * Ability to handle multiple, complex situations at one time * Ability to work collaboratively with other adults * Ability to practice flexibility when working with students and staff, especially during stressful situations * Believe students are able to learn new behaviors and skills * Ability to define expectations, teach, and acknowledge them * Ability to use positive correction strategies when inappropriate behaviors surface * Willingness to mentor students * Ability to develop and maintain caring relationships with students * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with parents, staff, teachers, and administrators * Ability to maintain positive and professional demeanor working with a diverse and challenging student population.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills *Experience and Education* * Graduation from High School or equivalent.
Completion of post high school courses in Psychology or special education is desirable.
* Possess an appropriate California operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and be insurable.
* Experience working with children, SPED, and/or students with emotional and behavioral disabilities in educational settings preferred.
* Must become certified in Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-Act) and successfully complete First Aid and CPR Certification and Mandated Reporter requirements within 30 days of employment.
*DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS* * Ability to speak Spanish language *PHYSICAL DEMANDS* Physical, mental, and emotional wellness and stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position Dexterity to be able to write and use office and classroom equipment, including a phone Vision sufficient to read printed materials and hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in typical conversational distance Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach overhead, climb and move quickly or run after a child in an emergency situation; including lifting a child weighing 45 pounds or less on own Physical mobility to move around the school, office, classroom, site-to-site, and homes Ability to drive an automobile Ability to respond to emergency situations Physical stamina sufficient to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time *WORK ENVIRONMENT* The employee may frequently be exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors; insult your physical appearance, age, sex and race, use profanity, sexually explicit phrases; exhibit defiance, dishonesty, threats, accusations and theft, assaultive behaviors and self-destructive behaviors.
Employees may also be exposed to students’ bodily fluids.
