Tonight we have another item from my Grandfathers estate and what we have here is a RARE & ORIGINAL CAST IRON WEEDEN HORIZONTAL TOY STEAM ENGINE MODEL No 14 made by the Weeden Manufacturing Company, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
This toy was manufactured between the 1890s until the 1940s.
This toy is believed to date to the 1920's -1930s.
This was sold as a working steam engine toy that children heated with an open flame and was used in many classroom environments.

The toy for sale has most of its parts but is probably not in working condition.
The toy consists of a brass boiler with safety valve, water sight glass, and whistle.
The horizontal slide valve engine powers an iron flywheel.
The boiler and engine is attached to a six-legged cast iron frame.
The front of the stand bears a Weeden maker's label.
Toy measures about 5 3/4 inches wide, 6 3/4 inches tall, and 5 3/4 inches long.
The Weeden Manufacturing Company was founded in New Bedford, Massachusetts by William M.
Weeden in the early 1880s, originally producing a variety of tinplate household items.
In 1884, it introduced the Weeden No.
1 Steam engine as “a new and great premium for boys” who were subscribers to the Youth’s Companion magazine.
Weeden made over a hundred different models of toy steam engines until the company ceased operations in 1952.
