Tonight we are putting up for sale another item from an estate sale we attended in San Diego, Calif.
, and what we have here is A SUPER RARE, LATE 1920's.

.
EARLY 1930'S RAILROAD IDENTIFICATION PLATE PROBABLY USED ON AN OLDER TURN OF THE CENTURY RAILROAD STEAM ENGINE.

THIS OLD METAL I.
D.
PLATE FEATURES WOODEN LETTERS & NUMBERS TOPPED OFF WITH REFLECTIVE GLASS MARBLES, AND THE 1/2 ROUND SHAPE, INDICATES IT PROBABLY SAT UPON THE ENGINES BOILER, AS ON THE REAR IT STATES .

DANGER.

THE PLATE IS NUMBERED ATA 397 AND MANY OF THE ID PLATES IN THE CASEY JONES MUSEUM USED ATA NUMBERS LIKE THIS, AND MY RESEARCH SHOWS ATA STOOD FOR AMERICAN TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION AND 397 WAS THE TRACK # AND MANY OF THESE BOILER PLATES WERE USED DURING THE CIVIL WAR.

The kids at the estate sale told me their grandfather collected many railroad items over the years, but this piece was definitely the oldest and most unique piece in his collection.
