Position Summary
The City of Palm Springs is excited to announce the opportunity for the position of GIS Analyst!
This position works in the Information Technology department and analyzes and designs applications and develops databases utilizing integrated Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology to support citywide mapping operations; assists in managing GIS-related projects; provides support and training for City GIS users; provides project coordination of applications to formulate solutions to municipal problems and solutions by applying a good working knowledge of GIS technology to City departments, outside agencies, and the public; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Examples of Essential and General Responsibilities Coordinate the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the City's GIS databases; recommends efficient use of GIS resources and delivery of services; and install and troubleshoot system software and programs.
Lead and participate in special projects regarding GIS and land information applications; develop GIS user applications; design GIS databases, forms, and procedures; develop map production systems to support City needs.
Generate standard and custom products such as reports, maps, diagrams, exhibits, and displays using GIS and related equipment; use GIS software to make queries and perform informational analysis of location, relationships, trends, patterns, adjacency, containment, and proximity of complex features and data.
Analyze database requirements; create, define and organize relational tables to store information; perform analysis, create queries, and reports to be converted into illustrative products; perform spatial data analysis; maintain and monitor security compliance.
Manage and maintain relational databases using standard DBMS technology of GIS software; write and edit programs for accessing, maintaining, linking and populating databases; verify database integrity; may be required to integrate GIS with other City systems, databases, and websites.
Assist internal customers in the preparation of requests and provide essential information regarding GIS data and map production to meet their needs; assist in training GIS users in analysis, design, and procurement of database systems and software applications.
Provide technical support and resolves conflict in assigned applications; monitor program activities to maximize the quality and quantity of products.
Prepare system documentation, training materials, and application user manuals, publications, manuals, and other materials as required; prepare a variety of documents for administrative and record-keeping purposes.
Determine user requirements; interpret complex information from recorded maps, land grants, deeds, and other data source documents, and transpose data using digitizing or scanning methods into GIS files and/or related databases.
Keep abreast of innovations in database design and related hardware/software matters; maintain knowledge of urban planning procedures and basic principles of civil engineering, surveying, and mapping.
Coordinate the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all GIS components: develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain databases for GIS; install and maintain software; administer and monitor maintenance contracts and license agreements for GIS system software.
Respond to user inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
May coordinate the work of consultants.
Assist IT staff with related software and hardware needs.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

) License or Certificates Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record (a driving record may be deemed unsatisfactory for any of the following reasons: three or more moving violations or reportable accident within the last three years; conviction of driving under the influence within the last five years) is required.
Special Requirements Incumbent will be enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program.
The DMV Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbents driving record and driving record status on a periodic basis to the City.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation, physical, and drug screen.
