In this job, you'll will be in the SC&M (Substation Construction & Maintenance) Division within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D).
The person for the installation, maintenance and repair of substation relay protection systems along with any control, monitoring or measuring equipment and any three phase high voltage equipment associated to it.
The position will be responsible for setting up and operating test instruments/equipment to perform function testing, adjustment and calibration of substation protection relays and associated equipment as well as supervise, instruct and train assigned test technician for testing and in-service testing of system equipment.

Assist in testing, inspecting, repairing, Installing, and adjusting relays, instrumentation equipment, local controller, pilot wire equipment, battery chargers, and associated devices for the protection, control, and indication of protective relaying equipment within electrical utility substations.
Use software programs utilized in programming, testing, commissioning, inspecting, repairing and adjusting system equipment such as “Doble ProTest” or “Protection Suite” software.
Load and modify relays, PLCs, HMIs or other electronic devices and instrumentation with programs, firmware and settings.
Conduct various electrical tests of high voltage electrical equipment in accordance with test criteria established by policies and procedures or written test plans and maintain accurate records of test results and report results to the development and testing group.
Determine, diagnose, and isolate electrical trouble and detect electrical faults in equipment and make necessary repairs.
Test the phase relation of overhead and underground lines, transformers, and relays.
Perform wire-checks (point to point), power-up and commissioning of industrial Control Panels to integrate them to new or existing systems as required.
Maintain electrical drawings/schematics and required documentation.
Redline electrical schematics.
Act as a Substation Operator and Qualified Electrical Worker when required Qualifications The essentials Two or more years of experience setting up and operating test instruments and equipment to perform operational testing, adjustment and calibration of protective relaying equipment.
Experience as a Qualified Substation Operator and electrical worker in a high voltage utility Substation.
Two or more years of experience working as a relay Test Technician.
Valid Driver's License.
The preferred Associates Degree or higher level of education in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Ability to read electrical schematics, drawings and symbols used in prints and manufacturer's documentations.
Formal training in electrical engineering, or experience in jobs requiring extensive comprehension of electrical theory and use of principals of electrical theory in actual performance.
Experience Installing, testing, repairing and maintaining electrical, electronic, and digital instrumentation and protective equipment for three phase high voltage power systems.
Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge and experience in setting up communication protocols with equipment to interface with computer.

This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.

Testing This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email.
